Joseph J. Sabo, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, September 9th, surrounded by his children.

Mr. Sabo, was born February 13, 1925 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Joseph M. and Anna Csimbok Sabo

He will be missed by two daughters and three sons: Joanne E. Grizzard and her husband Kenneth J. Wallace, Sr.; James J. Sabo, Sr. and his wife Christy; Joseph J. Sabo, Jr. and his wife Barbara; Kathleen M. Sabo and her husband Hugh Harmon; Daniel M. Sabo and his wife Jodi and son-in-law Daniel F. Dysart. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: Dawn M. Barr; Michael J. Sabo, James J. Sabo, Jr., Joshua H. Sabo, Jonathon D. Sabo; Joseph J. Sabo, III, Lauren M. Dulany; Stephen P. Sabo, Julian D. Sabo, Kenneth J. Wallace, Jr., Kimberly W. Marjoram and 9 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his three sisters Olga Andersen, Gloria Glogowski and Helen Hartman, all of New York State.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sabo was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth M. Sabo, son Timothy D. Sabo and brother, Stephen J. Sabo.

Mr. Sabo enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. He worked for United Parcel Service prior to moving to Salisbury in 1968 after enjoying the town during UPS business trips to set up the Salisbury facility. He owned and operated Joe’s Sunoco before joining Perdue Farms, from where he retired in 1990.

Mr. Sabo’s life will be celebrated at Holloway Funeral Home on Snow Hill Road, Salisbury at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 13th. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Rev. Paul Sherwood will officiate. Interment will follow at Wicomico Memorial Park.
